Koh Samui – Jungle Route 360

[English follows Japanese]

We happened to reach the highest point of the island, where a restaurant/viewpoint Jungle Route 360 is located, but frankly speaking, it’s probably not a good idea to go there by bike. Here, I’d like to share our experience.

We started from the Lamai side but went the wrong way. Going up was fine. We managed to get through and enjoyed the view. Going down was a rather dangerous ride. Those mountain roads are not just steep, but are terribly bumpy AND sandy. On top of that, rocks are everywhere – certainly not an easy path for a mere bike. We did in fact fall over once. Sometimes I had to get off the bike. In my past blog, I shared a video showing a ride on a mountain road. I was gonna do the same but there was no way I was able to take a video.

After those paths, we finally hit a place where we saw a paved road. There, we spotted a warning saying something like this: bike riders should take a 5-minute break because it is a steep downgrade. It is the road leading to Bophut, which was not that bad at the beginning simply because it is paved. But at some point, after long-time braking, we noticed that the front brake didn’t work. Yes, it was overheated. We should have expected this from the warning, I know…

We had to walk with the bike for a while.

It was certainly a one-of-a-kind experience, and we enjoyed the views etc., but we probably won’t go back there by bike. We saw a couple of bike riders on the way, but the other people were on a safari tour (probably this one). It may be fun to join such a tour next time.
